TIMOTHY (TIM) SCOTT, a Class III Senator from South Carolina; born September 19, 1965; Charleston Southern University, B.S., 1988; Insurance agency owner; South Carolina House, 2008-present; Charleston County Council, 1995-2008; defeated Robert Burton (D) 65% to 29% on November 2, 2010; reelected in 2012; appointed by Governor Nikki Haley to U.S. Senate on December 17, 2012 to fill the vacancy left by Jim DeMint, who left to lead The Heritage Foundation; reelected in 2014 to the remainder of the term and reelected in 2016 to a full term; reelected in 2022. |
